4 Casitas
Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico

Description

4 Casitas supports the vision, mission and values of the farm through financial and behavioral contributions, while providing guests with a unique environment in which to experience the beauty of southwestern Puerto Rico.

Through sustainable ecological practices, we work to preserve limited natural resources and protect the beauty of our environment. By sharing the farm's produce with local markets and practicing sound organic farming methods, we set an example for those around us and actively work to spread the word.

4 Casitas is the latest of several stages in the farm's plan to develop a self-sufficient, urban-style farming community. The casitas were designed by Atlanta, Georgia architect Daniel M. Johnston AIA with the intent of creating a sustainable housing development. While not yet fully self-sufficient, the farm uses renewable energy with supplements from the grid and has its own water supply from rainwater harvesting built into the structure.

Given our commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of overall development, las casitas no cuentan con aire acondicionado. Through the use of double-height ceilings, concrete walls, careful window placement, and multiple commercial ceiling fans, interior temperatures are kept as low as possible year-round through thoughtful design.

An important note to our guests: keep in mind that living on a tropical farm means dealing with all of nature's creatures. The Casitas are screened in and while we can occasionally control lizards or harmless insects, guests should recognize that we cannot completely isolate them from all aspects of life on the farm.
